Advantages of Oat Beta-Glucan FOR YOU...
Oat Beta-Glucan is a natural ingredient that is actually extracted from oats and it can help reduce cholesterol re-absorption when consumed as part of a varied healthy diet low in saturated fat.
High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease and just 3g per day of Oat Beta-Glucan is sufficient to reduce the blood cholesterol level. It is simple as that!
One serve of Oat Beta-Glucan enriched Plain Flour provides 33% of this requirement and, as an additional benefit, it is naturally high in dietary fibre, containing both soluble and insoluble fibre. By simply eating two scones from our recipe will provide at least 1g of Oat Beta-Glucan.
What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a natural part of our body. It is a fat-like substance which is largely produced by the body itself. There are two sources of cholesterol: 1) the liver, which produces around 1 gram of cholesterol per day and 2) the diet. Cholesterol is used to form cell membranes, important hormones, bile acid and vitamin D, which is important for your bones.
High Cholesterol can be caused by:-
• Eating too much food that is high in saturated fats.
• Can be hereditary with in a family's history.
• Being Overweight
• Lack of adequate exercise.
A low cholesterol diet has no or very small amounts of foods in high saturated fats and trans-fats and moderate amounts of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. 'Good' HDL cholesterol is necessary for your health and for keeping the 'bad' LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in check.
Foods that increase LDL cholesterol are high in saturated fats. Triglycerides is a type of fat that is found in your blood. These are produced from calories that have not being readily used. High Triglycerides levels are found from regularly eating more calories than you burn.
How does Beta-Glucan Work?
When you consume Beta-Glucan it eventually dissolves inside a person's digestive tract and creates a thick gel, just like glue. This gel binds with excess cholesterol and helps to prevent its absorption. In other words the gel formed from Beta-glucan 'mops' up the bad cholesterol which is harmlessly excreted out of the body.
How much do you need ?
At least 1g per serve and just 3 grams per of oat Beta-Glucan daily, for at least 2-3 weeks, is sufficient to reduce the blood cholesterol level.
