FODMAP is an acronym that stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols.
FODMAPs refer to a collection of carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and often lead to excessive water and fermentable bacteria in the colon causing gas and bloating. This is often referred to as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
